A painter curates another painter, and vice versa. A photographer curates another photographer, and vice versa. Or: "bitch" and "control freak" mutually select the works to be exhibited. The same goes for "scoundrel" and "stubborn." These labels—"bitch" for the painter Stephanie Hartstang and "control freak" for Maike Osterkamp—convey rather negative characteristics in a social context, but are of course meant ironically here.

The "bitch" is thus no longer just a cliché, but an attitude: a resistance to harmony and expectations. The "control freak," on the other hand, reveals himself not as a rigid author, but as a specialist in order – someone who makes structures visible without dominating them.

Stephanie Hartstang: Fischkutter im Port de pêche, Le Guilvinec

    Maike Osterkamp: Ohne Titel

In any case, it signifies a concrete artistic exchange between the participants. This mutual curation by the four artists thus becomes more than just an exhibition: it becomes a narrative about perspective – about how any two people see the same world, reflect on it differently, and enrich each other in the process. The works are then not merely images, but chapters in a dialogue that transcends authorship: an artistic conversation that challenges, provokes, and inspires, and can only lead to a successful outcome with mutual respect and trust – and a healthy dose of self-irony. This is especially true in a very limited art market, where these four artists are, after all, also competitors.

Visiting the City Museum

On February 4, 2026, the members of the art association were invited to the opening of an extraordinary exhibition »Change of perspective – alternating viewThe exhibition is being held at the Schleswig Photo Club. Works by the two painters will be on display.Stephanie Hartstang(Watercolor and Mixed Media) andMaike Osterkamp(Acrylic) as well as the photographerThomas HartstangandJörg Böttger. It became clear right from the opening: This exhibition goes beyond a classic presentation of artworks and opens up new perspectives.

The exhibition's unique concept lies in its mutual curation: the artists each selected the works of the others. This resulted in a fascinating dialogue between painting and photography – an external perspective on their own work, complemented by subtle, sometimes humorous, character observations. This very shift in perspective explains the exhibition's title and is what makes it so appealing.Change of perspective – alternating viewThis is a very personal, surprising, and absolutely worthwhile exhibition. Intrigued? Further dates when the artists will be present will soon be available on the photo club's website.

"(Cultural) landscapes - a painterly and photographic exploration"

Gallery at Premium Mobile in Gettorf

17.10.2025 - 17.01.2026

As part of our concept “In Dialogue – Painted and Photographed”, we have exhibited several times in the “True North” under various exhibition titles, most recently at the Levantehaus Hamburg, the Schleswig City Museum and in Kiel. The core of the concept is the realization of a subject in watercolor or acrylic mixed media on the one hand, and as a photograph on the other.

In our exhibition “(Cultural) landscapes“At the Premium Mobile Kuntz gallery in Gettorf, we explore precisely this topic. Where does humankind intervene in nature, and to what extent? Where do we quite obviously shape living spaces for ourselves, and how do we use nature for our own purposes? Does a completely untouched landscape, one that touches us with its naturalness, still exist?”

Seitenkanal in Venedig, Fotografie von Thomas Hartstang, Venedig, Südereiche.Art

The paintings and photographs are impressions of Hamburg and the true north, addressing the theme of highly complex industrial ports as well as our Nordic landscapes, the light, the trees, and the water. Works created directly during travels, for example to Venice, will also be on display—painted on location, photographed there, or recreated or artistically interpreted in her studio in Südereiche.

Many of the works are created through dialogue; that is, a particular subject is interpreted by Stephanie Hartstang through painting and by Thomas Hartstang through photography. The painter and photographer engage in intensive exchange, learning from and with each other. It is particularly fascinating for the viewer to see how closely related, or how different, the interpretations can be.

The exhibition includes paired works and individual pieces by both artists. It will feature expressive and high-contrast watercolors and mixed media works (in acrylic and watercolor), as well as art photography using cameras and drones, including award-winning photographs from Iceland taken this year at major international competitions.
