About this work

A volcano erupts. Lava carves its way down the mountain, carving furrows into the ground, then cools. Volcanic sediments settle in and around these furrows. Years pass, wind and weather reshape the structures. In a valley in the Icelandic highlands, streams of varying sizes develop, branching out, merging again, and seemingly flowing over and under each other, crossing one another.

Iceland – the land of fire and ice – offers this scenario in perfect detail. Such structures can be found on the high plateau, but they don't simply reveal themselves. Finding them is complex and time-consuming. And often even more complex and time-consuming is getting to a location where you can photograph them properly.
