About this work

In the beginning there was the traffic jam.

We'd been working independently for several years, Stephanie as a painter, Thomas with his camera. We regularly discussed our work and exchanged ideas, because subject matter selection, perspective, framing, composition, and much more are key to quality art in both disciplines.

When we moved to our adopted hometown of Hasselberg, we regularly drove along the A7 through the port of Hamburg – and we were often stuck in traffic, giving us repeated opportunities to study the harbor. The incredible hustle and bustle, the gigantic size of the ships and containers, the loading cranes. The idea for the painting "Container Stack" was born in both of our minds. The finished watercolor influenced the photography, and vice versa – "In Dialogue: Painted and Photographed" was born.
