About this work
In the beginning, there was the traffic jam.
We had been pursuing our own paths for several years. Stephanie as a painter, Thomas with his camera. We regularly discussed our work and exchanged ideas, because choice of subject, perspective, framing, composition, and much more are key to quality in both disciplines.
When we moved to our adopted home of Hasselberg, we regularly drove along the A7 through the Port of Hamburg – and we often found ourselves stuck in traffic, giving us ample opportunity to study the port. The incredible activity, the gigantic scale of the ships and containers, the loading cranes – it was in our heads that the idea for the painting "Stack of Containers" was born. The finished watercolor painting influenced the photography, and vice versa – "In Dialogue: Painted and Photographed" was born.
