About this work

A volcano erupts. Lava makes its way down the mountain, carving furrows into the ground, and cooling. Volcanic sediments settle in and along the furrows. Years pass, wind and weather work on the structures, seeds fly in, and streams develop. In a valley, waterways of various sizes develop, branching out, flowing back together, but also seeming to flow over and under each other, intersecting. A veritable bouquet of flowers appears.

Iceland—the land of fire and ice—offers this scenario perfectly. Such structures can be found on the highlands, but they don't simply appear. Finding them is difficult and time-consuming. Getting to a place where they can be adequately photographed is often even more difficult and time-consuming.

All the preparatory work and the enormous effort to get to the subject are rewarded with fantastic and imaginative photographs.
