Pointed mountains are formed by the combined action of tectonic forces and erosion. Mountains are first formed by the collision of tectonic plates (plate tectonics) or volcanic activity. Subsequently, weathering and erosion, particularly by glaciers, rivers, and wind, affect the mountain peaks, shaping them into sharp ridges and peaks.
Iceland is located on such a tectonic plate boundary, namely where the Eurasian and North American plates are drifting apart. 2 cm every year—Iceland is "growing." Hence the unchanged volcanism.
I particularly like this pointed mountain, "The Peak," in the highlands of Iceland because of its structures and colors.
